I received a Seagate usb 2.0 expansion drive and am having a problem using it. I have it plugged into a G4 power pc Emac. The drives icon shows up on the desktop but when I try to drag and drop a file I get a message telling me that the drive can't be modified. The drive came with no software or drivers. The seagate website said I didn't need them and it also mentioned something about partitioning the drive. What am I doing wrong here. Thanks in advance for any and all help.

Sounds like your Seagate drive came pre-formatted to NTFS. Your eMac can not write to a drive formatted to NTFS without third party software.

What you need to do is run Disk Utility and erase the drive. Then format it to either FAT-32 or HFS extended so that your eMac will be able to read and write to it.

No need to partition the drive unless you have a specific reason to do so.

Regards.
