Hi - I have a macbook pro. I am wondering about a button that is on the side near the front on the left. If you press it, you get this green line of little lights that illuminate and then it stops. Any idea what this does?

Thanks! One more question what is the little rectangular port close to the button for checking the battery level?

I assume you mean the slot between the battery indicators and the headphone/line out jack. On the 2008 MacBook Pro that slot is an ExpressCard/34 slot for expansion/peripheral cards. On the 2009 models this card is slightly smaller and takes SD memory cards.
