Looks like this time MS infringed on a Canadian patent. When will those guys at Redmond ever learn?

Wonder what MS intends to do with current versions of Word 2008 and Word 2007 already sold and being used by consumers like you and I?

LINK to article.

Regards.

And a long - l o n g way to go with appeals etc. The case is now nearly three years old. About another five to get to the Supreme Court maybe?

Well, I only briefly scanned the article you linked. However, I read a similar story on Yahoo! today that mentioned MS will still provide support to customers owning MS Office. I give them props for that, at least.

I lived in Redmond for a year a year ago :) Nice place....

Anyway though...I don't see how $290 million is a problem or them. They've probably made more of sales from the software to profit. I bet they knew what they were doing.

I read that this injunction does not stop MS from supporting current versions of Office and any copies sold until January sometime. After that January date, they are required to sell versions that don't infringe on this patent. So, MS isn't really screwed. Apparently, it's quite a small change so I'm sure this will affect sales in no way.
