There is a Find my iPhone feature for MobileMe users. You have to have it set up before though.

I am afraid you are out of luck.

Mobile.me has a 'Find my iPhone' option within it.

Find your iPhone on a map

Now, if you lose your iPhone, MobileMe can help you find it. MobileMe includes a new feature called Find My iPhone. Just enable Find My iPhone in MobileMe settings on your phone.* Then you can log in to me.com from any computer to access Find My iPhone and display your phone’s approximate location on a map.

Apart from that Apple doesnt take on the onus to track lost or stolen iPhones :(
Its a police matter unfortunately..
But when i get mine (Next Gen) ill be setting up a mobile.me account just for the sole reason of locating it.
Or insurance ... Thing is they are like a lost wallet now. Not worried bout the $ going missing, just all contacts and personal information ..

Good luck with it anyways mate

Cheers

with a mobile me account, you can actually lock your phone remotely as well and set up a lock code so they can't use it.
