Hi All,
I have a G4 - 800 that is running with its original ethernet card.
I have high speed internet that does not seem very "high speed".
I have had the cable company down and they hooked up a laptop
and that thing flew on the internet, but when ever I get on it is really
slow. Now the cable company blamed my processor, I have 2 GB of
ram, and I have updated my video card to a Radeon 9600.
I was wondering if it was maybe the ethernet card??
Any thoughts or help would be much appreciated, it is driving me
nutty!!

For starters, visit Speedtest.net - The Global Broadband Speed Test and see what kind of numbers you're getting and compare that what you expect to get based on your ISP's claim.

Next how are you connecting to the Internet, through a router/switch or directly to the cable modem? The slowest Ethernet card is 10 Mbps and the fatest is 1000, but even at 10 Mbps, you should get decent performance, with the 100 Mbps, you're faster than what your cable company can provide..

Regards

I have been to that site, repeatedly and only get about 6 to 8 Mps for
downloads and even slower for uploads. When the cable company did
it on their laptop it was over 10 Mps. I am connecting directly to the
cable modem. I am not even visiting busy sites... it just drags.
Any other ideas?

6 - 8 Mps is not all that slow. What software did the cable guy use to test and where was he testing to?

He used SpeedTest.net and his laptop. The thing just flew, mine takes
its time just accessing my email account. His was over 10 mbps and he
blamed my processor!? But his was loading pages way faster, so that is
why I wondered if I should get a new ethernet card?
