Move data from ipod touch to iPhone

I've searched a lot for this since it seems like a common question. My wife will be moving from her ipod touch to a new iPhone. I want to move apps and data without erasing any OEM data on the new phone. I'm sure there must be write-ups about this somewhere. I've read that the iTunes back up won't restore app data.

If you get something like senuti you can copy all the programs and music from the itouch and it will put it straight into itunes so you can sync the iphone with it.
