I have a Macbook Pro 2006 2.33GHz 3GB of RAM and 17".

This may be a bit paranoid but my computer stays at around 80 degrees (176 fahrenheit) when just using safari and nothing else like converting movies or using my isight and it stays around 55 degrees (131 fahrenheit) when not being used at all and no applications open (idle), has anyone else experienced this? I have installed Smc fan control but it is not open, the way i mesured my tempurature is using 'Temperature Monitor'.

Thanks in advance =].

Seems it could be running a little hot. Where do you have your MBP when you get these readings? For example, sitting it on a wooden desk should result in lower temperatures than having it on your lap or on a bed.

Which of the heat sensors is recording those temperatures? If it's the heat sink, then that's probably not a problem, but if t's certain other parts, it could be an issue.

Hmm...well honestly you would have known by now if it was too hot as the MBP would have shut itself off so you're ok although it does seem a little bit on the hotter side than normal. Can you get to an Apple shop?

Is it possible that the fans and such are mucked up with dust/debris and could use an cleaning ? Air blower, rocket blower should do the trick but be careful if you're going to attempt to do it yourself.

If nothing is blocking the air vent, then fire up ActivityMonitor.app and see which process is burning CPU cycles.
Make sure you select " All processes " from the top right hand corner.

Post a complete screenshot of the results ( you might have to scroll down and do 2 screenshots :)

Are you running leopard or snow leopard... when I installed snow leopard it seemed mine started running hotter. The only solution I had was to install some secondary software to control the fans and then lowered the triggers for the fans and increased the fan speed.

I am running Snow Leopard. I have ran out of warranty and i have also opened my Macbook up to see if the fans are clogged with dust and the are clean (surprisingly), Would apple still have a look at it?

With no warranty they will look at it and even fix it for you if there is a problem... but it wont be free... frankly if you are paying the bill I would not go to a apple store for help they are very proud of their work and you will pay dearly for it.

am in the same boat as you OP, am surprise its just us, i have a 06-07 white MB c2d and its the same way, if i open youtube, QT or web site with flash, the MB starts to heat up and the fan ramps up to 6000 rpm. i also have a black MB 08 and its the same thing, my older ibm is fine, am afraid to let my spouse use the MB to play yoville or framville, the MB will heat up..

Yes that is it, as soon as you open up a video online or play an online game (facebook etc.) the fans go crazy, my cpu reaches 80C sometimes higher, would it cost less than $100 to fix it if i go to an apple store?
