Ghost Files

Hey does anyone here know how to get rid of ghost files? Files that have been deleted but there icon remains. unable to interact with them. Ex. JPEG image in my downloads that i dragged to trashcan. emptied trash. but icon is still there and when i open in finder, it's not there, nor can search find it. and does it still take up memory?

It sounds like it's just a glitch in Stacks. Open Terminal from the Utilities folder or using Spotlight, type killall Dock, and then press Return. The Dock will disappear and then reappear, and hopefully the "ghost" will be gone.
