Recently upgraded my MacBook Pro to SL 6.2. Then my Epson desktop printer wouldn't work. Downloaded a SL upgrade from Epson website. When I click on the "Install" icon, am prompted to type in User Name and Password. Type in User name but when I try to tab to the Password box the cursor disappears. I then get a message that says "The software to be installed requires Administrator or higher access privileges." My Accounts pref says that I AM the administrator. What gives?

Back to my old 2.2GHz C2D MB after selling my MBP and wondering what my next Mac will be :)
So if you type in your name and click on the password box instead of tabbing, are you able to type it in?
Also, try logging out then logging in, and repairing disk permissions.

Not sure if it will work or not, but try this:

Move the printer update to the Desktop.

Open Terminal >
Type:
Code:
cd /Desktop
then
Code:
sudo open -a "type the name of the update here"

See if that works. Make sure that you type the name of the update in speech marks too.
