I have 3 macs in my household. Do I need to buy 3 version of Tiger, or will I be allowed to install it on all 3 of my machines from one DVD?

Apple sells a $200 Family Pack which can be deployed on up to 5 systems.

You can (technically) install a $129 single-user copy of Tiger on any number of Macs, but you would (legally) be violating the license agreement if you did so.

On XP you can install it on one desktop and one laptop. Is it the same for Tiger. I have an iMac and an iBook. Can I put it on both legally?

Unless something has changed in the last 4 months I believe you are incorrect.

If user purchases a retail (not OEM or Volume License) copy of Office XP, then the primary user of the desktop is authorized to also install a copy of Office XP on a single portable for his or her exclusive use.

The Windows XP OS does not have any such provision.

This is not to say that the product activation will not work, merely that it is in violation of the EULA and probably illegal. Given the pervasiveness of this misconception I would not lose any sleep over it though.
