Hey, all...

I know I've read in many places -- including ifixit.com -- that even though the MacBook has a (published) limit of 4GB RAM that you can actually boost it to 6 by putting in a 2-gig stick and 4-gig stick.

Have any of you tried this?? I'm curious (because I like to max out my RAM all I can!), especially if there's a performance lag due to a mismatched pair of SODIMMs...basically, is it worth it???

I can't confirm that but even if u put more than 4gigs in it and it works, it still wouldn't recognize anything but 4gigs. So get 2 2gig sticks and be happy

It ultimately depends on which model you have. The unibody Macbook and the 13" Macbook Pro support up to 6GB of RAM. The plastic Macbook only supports a max of 4GB.

The core 2 duo plastic white or black MacBook can accept 6 GB of memory as you say... 1 x 2 GB + 1 x 4 GB = 6 GB. That configuration, however, is not officially supported by Apple although many folks have reported that it works fine. Both the ifixit site and MacTracker app likewise say that 6 GB works.

I haven't personally tried it but am tempted to give it a go. The 6 GB should be recognized when running a 64 bit OS. (Snow Leopard x 64, Windows 7 x 64)

Regards.
