WD Scorpio Blue 1 TB HDD in an Early 2008 MacBook Pro?

Hey everyone,

Well, with xmas coming up, I've been thinking of doing a few small upgrades to my Early 2008 MBP. I was going to go for a 256GB SSD, but when I saw the price... no way .

However, it has come to my attention recently that Western Digital released a 1TB 2.5" SATA HDD, and this would be perfect for my MBP as I'm selling my desktop soon and it has about 400GB of stuff on it. I'll only be getting about 50GB of that off and deleting the rest, but I've been around the "2GB - 4GB remaining" mark of my current 200GB HDD for ages, and I've only got a small bootcamp partition, so I can only have 2 games at the most installed on Windows at a time (which is annoying as I love gaming on this laptop).

Anyway, these HDDs are very cheap now, and I'd love to buy one, and I know that they work with the late-2008 and 2009 MBPs, but nothing has been said about the early-2008 MBP. Does anyone know if there would be any problems with it if I were to install it in my MBP?

EDIT: Or does anyone else know of any other HDDs that would fit and have a 500GB or more capacity?

Nevermind. I Google'd. I personally wouldn't get one because it's likely pretty slow due to having three platters. Same goes for the 750 gig drive. Also, because of the three platters, the drive is 12.5mm high. Not sure it will fit into the older MBP, but should fit into the new Uni's. Not totally sure though.

Hmmm, thanks. I'll continue to look into it, but do you know of any other HDDs 500GB+ that would fit? Going to look into it tomorrow too, but if you already know of any others it would be appreciated .

Last I heard size/height for older and newer macbooks and macbook pros is 9.5mm... or something like that. I don't think you can find larger than 500gb for a Mac notebook.

I have a MBP1,1 - CoconutBattery says it is 44 months old - I would agree.

I have a Seagate 7200RPM 500GB 2.5 HD in it now. No problems.

Don't know where you are at, but i got mine at Fry's Electronics - $90.

I've just taken a look, and that looks pretty nice, and looks like it will fit in my MBP ok. Will keep on doing some research over this next week, but this looks like a great pick. Tyvm for bringing it to my attention .

Well, I (happily) stand corrected. I'm glad to see notebook internal drives are beginning to exceed 500GB. Although, I'd probably never need more than 500 anyways. I'd also recommend looking for 7200rpm if possible.
