• The Mac-Forums Community Guidelines (linked at the top of every forum) are very clear, we respect US law and court precedence when it comes to legality of activity.

    Therefore to clarify:
    • You may not discuss breaking DVD or BluRay encryption, copying, or "ripping" commercial, copy-protected DVDs.
    • This includes DVDs or BluRays you own. Even if you own the DVD or BluRay, it is still technically illegal under the DMCA to break the encryption. While some may argue otherwise, until the law is rewritten or the US Supreme Court strikes it down, we will adhere to the current intent of the law.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying unprotected movies or homemade DVDs.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying tools in the context that they are used for legal purposes as outlined in this post.

Hello All,

I wonder if any of you can help please.

I am using what I believe to be the latest iMovie 09 version (version 8.0.05) for the first time on my latest MAC BOOK and trying to use the 'cutaway' function in my edit.

I have a flagged the box 'SHOW ADVANCE TOOLS' in order for this 'cutaway' function to be active (under PREFERENCES> GENERAL>SHOW ADVANCE TOOLS). However it is still greyed out (under EDIT>PASTE ADJUSTMENTS> CUTAWAY) and it won't let me use it.

Does any one have any advice on what I may be missing here, any help would be gratefully received as I have an edit to finish by tomorrow!

Many thanks

Mark

Grab some video from the event of interest, drag it over some video in your project, release the mouse and an overlay menu appears with 'Cutaway' as an option.

Type cutaway in the iMovies Help search box to see other things you can do with it.

I can't figure out the 'Cutaway' menu item either. It becomes active when you choose a cutaway clip that has been added to the project but doesn't seem to actually do anything. OOPS! Well it did. Now it doesn't. I have to wonder if that is a bug.
