How can I retrieve history that has been deleted?

Hi,
I'm new to this forum, I have searched here and I have searched online on how to retrieve history that has been deleted. I don't have an external thing for the time machine so it's not there. I know it is somewhere on my hard drive, can someone tell me exactly how to get it from the HD? It's very important that I retrieve this info. So thank you in advance.

First - stop using the Mac. Every click takes you closer to overwriting the file.

Depending on what kind of file it is, the "easiest" way is to take it to best-buy. It's NOT cheap though. By "history," do you mean internet history, or something else? Once something gets deleted from the hard-drive, it's file gets compressed, which, to a regular person, looks like a a document with useless numbers and letters on it. So, it is in there somewhere, but next to impossible to find on your own. But, try what Chilbear said...might just work!
