After a system failure on my Powerbook G4 (Aluminium 12 inch), I've reformatted the hard drive, having hoped that I could simply reinstall the system off the original Install disk that came with the computer, but when it gets to the stage where the disk asks for a target disk to be designated, it isn't recognising the internal hard disk, so it sticks on the "Select a Destination" window.
I suspect the hard drive may be unuseable, but when I run the "Apple Hardware Test" via the G4 System Install disk, it says the "mass storage" is OK.
I just want to check if it is a straightforward matter to replace the hard disk and reinstall the system (in other words is it my hard disk that is dead, or something else - is some sort of installation password embedded in the apple disk at manufacture?).
I've already accessed the hard disk via my new Imac and the "Firewire Target Disk" mode (through which I backed up the entire disk before reformatting), which allows me to apparently reformat the disk, but when I run a verify it says it needs repairing, then when I attempt to repair it, it says it is unrepairable and prompts me to reformat again.
I believe the system on the disk is 10.2.7.
Thanks in anticipation...
