Hi, I work a lot in Ableton Live and the whole program feels kind of cramped on a 13" screen. So I was thinking about hooking it up to a 17" Dell monitor I have.

I've googled it but it seems like there are many different types of connections depending on what model your monitor is. I wanted to make sure I was buying the correct wires, hopefully you guys can help me.

The Dell monitor uses a 15 Pin VGA connection.

So would this be the right wire to buy?

Amazon.com: Apple - Video adapter - mini-DVI (M) - HD-15: Electronics

Thanks.

as the above poster mentioned, yes, if you have the non-unibody MB. If you have Unibody, you need mini-displayport to HD15.

I feel ripped off, I paid $17.99 for mine. But of course I did buy it from an authorized apple store because I was in need asap and couldn't wait for the shipping time.

Just think of it that you paid more for the added value of walking out of a store with it and having it right that day

Do you mean by being able to use the external monitor but keep the MacBook closed? Close the MacBook, then move the mouse or press a key on the keyboard.
