"Service Battery" w/ MBP & Snow Leopard

Hi, I know there's a lot of discussion about this already. I have an older style MBP w/ Snow Leopard installed, and I have the "service battery" error. My question is, has anyone gone into apple, replaced the battery, and had this error go away?

Macbook 13.3 Intel Core 2 Duo 2.0ghz, 2gig ram, 500gig HD -- Iphone 3g 8gig
try loading up leopard if you have it on a separate HD. see if you still get the error.
