Is downgrading from 10.6 to 10.5 acceptable?

Having problems with a few apps crashing, and some of the oldies but goodies that I miss dearly are not compatible. Would it be a appropriate idea to downgrade back to cozy Leopard or would it be a slap in the face to Mr. Jobs?

Who gives a ratt's patoot about Mr. Jobs. It's YOUR computer which YOU paid for. If it's not operating properly because the latest OS lacks the support you need for certain apps, and you're able to remedy that by reverting back to 10.5.6, then you most certainly should do a clean install of Leopard.

Mr. Jobs ain't payin' your or my salary, so he can feel as hurt as he wants to ! :Smirk: (And believe me, he ain't hurt !)

There is no graceful downgrade path, but if returning to Leopard makes things easier for you, by all means do so..

After using SL on a MBP, same opinion as yourself. If you do not have a back up of Leopard, you will probably find it necessary to do a format and clean install, then update to X.5.8.

OS 10.5 is a beautiful and elegant operating system. I wouldn't hesitate to go back to it myself if I had a reason to. So, please, just do it.

If you can't find updates to the apps that don't work on SL, I don't see why you couldn't go back to Leopard. But I haven't had any problems (except with 3rd-party 32-bit screen savers) with SL.

It all depends on how old your Mac is. If it's too recent, it won't support the older OS.

Of course OS 10.5.8 would work on your computer since I assume that is what you were using before you installed SL?

If you uninstall SL you will be erasing everything on your hard drive! Did you backup before the install? If you did, you can reinstall Leopard 10.5 from the install disc and pull your data from your external hard drive. You get 90 days support from Apple when you buy SL so if in doubt call Apple for help. I uninstalled SL. It has too many bugs and is still not compatible with a lot of software.

Good Luck.

If you checked the specs of this brand new iMac, released late October, you would see it came with OS X.6.1 pre-installed so Leopard may not install.
