iCal and Iphone Calendar

Just got new imac ... my wife will be buying new smart phone soon... still deciding between driod or iphone 3gs...

I have read that its hard to sync ical with droid... now if she gets the iphone, can it sync with the ical? meaning appointment entered in ical will be loaded to the iphone calendar or vice versa via USB cable?
