In the last few months my MacBook has been doing something very odd, and I haven't been able to locate any mention of this problem on the internet.
Once in a while, seemingly at random, when I'm listening to audio through my headphones, the sound will start going on and off (as if someone was very rapidly pressing a mute button). If I take the headphones out, audio plays fine through the laptop's speakers. Restarting the machine doesn't help, nor does taking the headphones in and out. It usually fixes itself (again, seemingly at random) if I just take the headphones out for a few hours.
The problem is definitely not with the headphones, as they work in other devices, and it runs across programs. Any ideas?
