I had the same things happen with previous releases. I have since determined that I need to do a minimal install and once it's done, install everything else I need from ports. It's a bit more time consuming but it works.Last I saw it was loading items into /boot. I chose to do a standard install on a 16GB slice with auto defaults and MBR. I selected all sources, binaries and X with added Linux ports. Then selected "Install from CD/DVD". Everything was transferring fine from the DVD (8.0-RELEASE-i386-dvd1.iso file). At that point, I decided to check my email and hit the "Home" or ⌘ key to release the pointer. Within a few seconds it tosses some error and says it will reboot in 5 seconds, goes back to the FreeBSD Boot Loader Menu and starts all over again. I tried several times at various points after the files started copying to the disk, but the common factor in the install diving seems to be releasing the pointer via the ⌘ key. I'm using VB 3.0.12. Weird.
I don't think they have a live CD (if they do, it's new to me) but they numerous install discs.Does Free BSD do a live CD like some linux distros or do you have to install it? I have a spare P4 here I could try it on if needed. Where is a good url to get it from?
