Back to my old 2.2GHz C2D MB after selling my MBP and wondering what my next Mac will be :)
Hi all, I just noticed this strange behavior when right clicking a .jpg on my desktop, I have Firefox listed twice.
Any ideas as to why, other than my MB or SL really liking Firefox?

Ideas? - yeah, but only my own speculation. I've only had to deal with those double entries once in three years so it has not been worth the effort to find out why for sure.

I do know it's typically taken care of by running Rebuild LaunchServices in either Onyx or MainMenu.

I don't really need to know why either.... the solution was more of what I was hoping for.
Thanks bobtomay

It didn't work, but I'll give repair disk permissions a whirl

Do you have two versions of FF installed?

Are you running a virtual machine? If so, do you have FF in OS X and one in your vm?

Here are my options for a pic on the desktop.

Just the one version of firefox (3.5.5), and no virtual machine.
Repair permissions came up with nothing either.... almost tempted to uninstall Firefox and go again, but I don't want to lose all my bookmarks.

Probably check in your home folder under Library /Application Support for 2 listings of FF.

I had firefox and mozilla folder in there, but the mozilla folder had an empty extensions folder....... deleted it, but no luck.
So, I just deleted firefox, and saved the App.support firefox folder with bookmarks etc to my desktop, downloaded and installed firefox and tried again, and we have victory :)
Once again, thanks for the suggestions though.

Do you have an external drive mounted that contains a clone of your system? Or perhaps a drive/partition that contains an earlier version of the OS? I think that can cause this behavior. Curious, rebuilding Launch Services used to cure this. Don't remember if you have to restart after rebuilding Launch Services.

Didn't have any drives hooked up, and did the restart.
Just one of those weird things.
Considering that's 1 of 2 minor problems (if you can call it that) I've had with this Mac in the 2yrs that I've had, I can't complain :)
