Good afternoon everyone,

today's issue is a missing plug-in! In fact, it isn't just today's issue as far as I am concerned, but something that has been nagging me for some time, despite leafing through Apple support pages and whatever else I found on the net.

I am trying to view a video from BBC News but the message that Safari brings up, as usual, is:

The page “BBC News Player” has content of MIME type “application/x-mplayer2”. Because you don’t have a plug-in installed for this MIME type, this content can’t be displayed.

I searched for this application/x-mplayer2 guy but I cannot find anything anywhere. Or maybe it IS there, I just don't recognise it but clearly, until I download the plug-in, there will be NO video... Can someone help me please?

Do you have Windows Media Player installed? Lots of Internet streamings unfortunately are in WMV-format, which requires Windows Media Player for Mac that includes the plug-in. There's also VLC or mplayer that can play WMV, but I'm not sure if they also install the necessary plug-in.

I would like to report back on this one. After further investigations I did indeed download Media Player (argh) and it is what I need for these videos I would like to access off BBC News.

However, while researching on this, I also came across a certain MisFox. This contains Default Applications, File Mappings and Protocol Helpers which are rather valuable when trying to identify the plug-in one needs or other such stuff. Just thought I'd mention it! You can get the Fox here:
