The display screen to my powerbook g4 is broken. I am using a dvi to vga cable to connect it to my television. The problem is I can't see any of my icons or dock on the monitor. How do I fix the settings so there is no extended desktop.

System Preferences - Displays
You need the Appearance tab. But, I don't remember if it shows up on the window for the external monitor or only on the primary display.
If it's there, either put a check by 'Mirror displays' or on the small picture of 2 monitors, drag the white bar (represents the menu bar) to the other one.
