• The Mac-Forums Community Guidelines (linked at the top of every forum) are very clear, we respect US law and court precedence when it comes to legality of activity.

    Therefore to clarify:
    • You may not discuss breaking DVD or BluRay encryption, copying, or "ripping" commercial, copy-protected DVDs.
    • This includes DVDs or BluRays you own. Even if you own the DVD or BluRay, it is still technically illegal under the DMCA to break the encryption. While some may argue otherwise, until the law is rewritten or the US Supreme Court strikes it down, we will adhere to the current intent of the law.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying unprotected movies or homemade DVDs.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying tools in the context that they are used for legal purposes as outlined in this post.

Hey guys -- I have never performed any video transferring or editing on my previous PC's or current Macs. I have started to read through these threads, and it is not nearly as easy as I thought it would be, and has me somewhat hesitant about jumping into the ring!

I have a Panasonic PV-GS65, miniDV, 3CCD camcorder that is a few years old. Eventually, I would like to create DVDs of our family videos. However, my more pressing need is to create small video clips to insert into Powerpoint presentations, and possibly put those same clips onto a CD to play during my presentation on my Mac through the LCD.

The information I've read regarding converting video formats, compatibility issues, iMovie vs. other editing software, etc, has me totally confused as to where to even start to learn what to do! So my questions:

1. Do you know of any online guides that could help me learn the basics of using Mac's for video transferring and editing?

2. Any initial advice regarding my initial needs and use of my specific camera?

Keep in mind I am a completely ignorant on this subject!!!

Thanks in advance!
