Hi all,

I am wondering if the MAC access controls on the Airport only can restrict wireless users, or if they can also restrict users who are attempting to access the network via ethernet. I have a general block for all users except those in the house who I want to access the network.

Just to clarify: if an ethernet cable is plugged directly into the Airport, will they be be successfully affected by my general block? If not, can you suggest any other utilities that will accomplish this?

Thank you!

Just to update my post: I have tried restricting my own ethernet access to no avail. Wondering if there is something else I need to do besides just having a general block in the Access Controls.

MAC filtering only applies to wireless connections - and it's a useless form of security at that. None of the traffic is encrypted, and all one has to do is monitor the packets to see which MACs are allowed. Once you have that, you simply spoof your client's MAC address (very easy to do) and wait for one to stop sending traffic. After that, you're on board as an authorized user.

I know of no way to do MAC filtering on a hard-wired connection. Perhaps if you gave us some context for why you need to do that, we can give you some other suggestions.
