I've just startedusing a monitor connected to my 12" i book... the image appears on both screens... but exactly the same... I was just wondering if there was any way of sharing the desktop so i can have one application on one screen... and one on the other..

Thanks :)

I believe that can only be done with the Powerbooks, unless there's some software hack out there screaming to be mentioned...

There is an unsupported hack which allows dual monitor mode on the iBooks. Google for "screen spanning iBook"

there is the link... i have used it... ti works fine... just dont us ethe clamshell moder (where u can close the lid of your ibook and it not go to sleep) your ibook vents through the keys and when it is closed it will have no way to relase heat... casuing major MAJOR problems

Ditto. I just downloaded the hack a few days ago and it is pretty great. Also if you want to have a scrolling trackpad like the powerbook just go to this site and download the driver:

Just more video memory and a/v and I would totally forget about the powerbook. Will probably just get a G5 tower sooner or later instead though.

I would have to say though, some people have experienced problems relating to using the hack with Tiger. So I would wait a bit to upgrade to Tiger if you planned on that. Just so 3rd parties can fix the bugs.

I use Screen Spanning Dr on my 14" iBook. Works great. However I wouldn't recommend enabling clamshell mode. The iBook vents via the keyboard and you could damage your screen.

I bought a DVI to VGA adapter yesterday to do this and I accidentally bought the one for the powerbook. I returned it today and they were out of the iBook ones. :(
