Problems copy and paste.

Hi ia am running OS X 10.6.2.
I am having problems trying to copy and paste a folder on my usb drive.
I am trying to create a copy of a folder so that I can rename.
I have done this a thousand times and all of a sudden it will not let me do it.
When I paste it says the item already exists.
Can any body help me please.

Sounds like the one already with the name is made in another App as it usually asks me if i want to replace the one that is at the destination. Hi think it was after the last up date that it stop working.
I had my usb drive configured to FAT. Had to reformat to Mac 0s x extended journal. It now works fine. Thanks for your reply.
