I'm new to this whole 'mac' thing. I was just wondering if there is a similar command on mac to the windows 'f3' where the search bar pops up at the bottom of the page.

The Spotlight magnifying glass is sitting at the right side of the menu bar all the time.

This not only provides search function, but can be used to launch apps, as a mini calculator...

If you go to System Preferences > Spotlight, you can see what it searches.

Web pages have their own search field, usable within the browser.

On this web page for example, using Camino, Cmd-F searches the page for what I type in the field at the base of the window.

In addition to what bobtomay has proffered, I'd recommend using Cmd-F (from Finder) for searching your computer's HD contents. It does a more thorough job than Spotlight I've learned, and displays the results better.

Or, you can download the free "Find Any File" application which does a more thorough search and find than Spotlight. LINK

Spotlight is also command spacebar... might be more helpful. I dunno.
