    • This includes DVDs or BluRays you own. Even if you own the DVD or BluRay, it is still technically illegal under the DMCA to break the encryption. Codec'd .AVI won't play in iMovie

Hey guys, I am trying to put together a video with a few different things. I have two videos that are codec'd and are a .avi file. I could not get them to play in Quicktime until I downloaded Perian. I tried converting them using two programs and ended up deleting them since they left watermarks on the video.

Now that I can play the files in Quicktime, why can't I upload them to iMovie?

Is there a way I can uncodec them or what? I'm not 100% tech savvy anymore...

Thanks,

Try something like ffmpegX to convert the files. Since QuickTime Player is reading the files, QuickTime could likely save them into another format as well, but is costs money.

Well, it worked out great! Thanks for the help.

The video is pretty sweet, IMO, but it still needs a little bit of work and needs to be finished.
