Hi,
I'm thinking of upgrading my white MacBook (2Ghz Core Duo) internal HD to a 320Gb 7200 rpm one... for faster overall performance

My only doubt is that since the laptop gets already quite hot, the faster spinning drive will make things worse

Don't want to end up with a laptop where the fan is always on at full speed (too much noise for me)

Anyone has tried similar upgrades and can share impressions?

all the best from here

Mine still runs just as quiet as the original 5400 RPM HDD. >_>"

That particular WD Blue is just an outstanding drive and is not indicative of the differences between the 320GB drives.
I believe that's also why WD hasn't been in any hurry to put out a 7200 RPM 500 GB drive.

edit: Like Kash (below) there are many of us that have been running the 320GB 7200RPM drives since they hit the market about two years ago.

I've been running a 7200RPM drive for about two years now. No extra heat or noise.

I wouldn't even consider a 5400RPM drive ever again. 7200s are just as quiet and don't pose any battery life reductions (common myth), and make the computer faster all-around. I'm very satisfied.
