MacBook (White) to TV

Hello. My family is leaving for a quick little vacation tomorrow and we want to hook up my White MacBook to the television in our hotel. What is the name of the adapter I need for this and what's the cost?

It depends entirely on what kind of input the TV in the hotel has.

The input is usually just the standard AV cable.

Yep, no way to answer that question without knowing what connections the TV has.

Any hotel that is still using CRT TV's will typically only have composite connections available. Even the high dollar places, typically bought very inexpensive TV's. If your Mac has the mini-display port, you're not going to hook your Mac up to it. If it has the mini-DVI, then you'll need the mini-DVI to video adapter (as Apple calls it) $30 plus a composite cable for maybe $10-20 depending on where you go.

If it's a newer LCD, your guess would be as good as mine. Well, maybe not as good, but you get the point.

It's the Embassy Suites. As far as I know they use AV (Red/White/Yellow) inputs. I see a small port with 2 rows of pins if that tells you anything.

Instead of buying the composite cable (red/white/yellow), you can get just the single yellow one. This one is for the video. If all they have is the triple wire cable, get it, you just won't use the red & white cables on it.

Then you'll need a mini-plug to RCA cable for the sound.

How do I tell what port I have?

go to google images - look up a picture for:

mini-dvi

mini-display port

see which you have - if it's the '08 MacBook, should be the mini-dvi I think.

It's a refurb and I think it was not produced in 2008 but it was purchased in '08. It looks to be a Mini-DVI.
