AppleWorks

I was browsing through the buy/sell/trade forum and i saw AppleWorks for sale. I was considering it until I did a search on the forums and saw that it is apparently included with OS X Panther? I have OS X Panther, and I do not have AppleWorks. Am I missing something? Someone please educate me on this :mac:

AppleWorks is included on entry level macs (eMacs, iMacs, iBooks, mac mini) but not on PowerBooks or PowerMacs

Appleworks does not come with Panther if you buy the OS on it's own away from the computer either. Like trpnmonkey41 said, only with the lower end macs he listed. I bought both Jaguar and Panther separately and no Appleworks.

I like Appleworks unlike a lot of people I know. Some have not even tried it and hate it! If you want compatibility with Word, Excel, ETC then like was said, go with IWork if you do not need Excel or NeoOffice if you do. NeoOffice is free also. I am hoping in the future Apple does a Spreadsheet for the Iwork Suite. That would make it a great package. I would only use Iwork if there were a Spreadsheet. If you do not need Office Compatibility, Appleworks is not a bad suite of applications and it will do a suprising lot of work.

But having said that: Who would want to buy Appleworks?
Get iWork instead, or OpenOffice if you need spreadsheet capabilities.

AppleWorks (ClarisWorks) may not have the huge featurelist of MS Office or OpenOffice, but it has a lot of power, mostly due to its level of integration between components.

I've produced documents using AppleWorks that made MS Office users stare and ask, "How'd you do that?" True, it took a lot of effort to pull off, but the tools are there.

If you're looking for a word processor, you'll have better luck with Word or Pages. But as an integrated text/graphics/numbers/data package, AppleWorks can sometimes outdo Office 2004 if you're accustomed to the way it works.

Agreed: The integration of the different abilities is very tight, but after searching for 10 minutes with a customer at my store the other day for a way to outline text (not a complete box around the text, just one or two sides to the box - don't ask way: That's what the customer wanted), so I'm slightly biased against it.
