Im using a macbook air and have close to nothing on it, however i only have 10Gb of space left. I use it for work and download many large files, but always delete them and empty the recycle bin. Is there some kind of temporary folder they are being stored in?

Back to my old 2.2GHz C2D MB after selling my MBP and wondering what my next Mac will be :)
You may want to try this:
Disk Inventory X
It will give you an insight as to what is on your HD and where.

Ok, that means you don't have the Top Sites feature in your Safari. Be aware that if you ever update to 10.5.8 and use Safari 4, Top Sites will save images of web pages you visit. I recently purged over 500MB of jpeg files!

By the way, why are you stuck at 10.5.4? The updates are free downloads!

Do you by chance use any photo or video editing software ? I use Lightroom and Photoshop, and there are certainly places which each of these programs stores certain types of cache files and such. If you're into media editing, I'd look into that closely.

You have to figure out which files are taking up all of your space before you can delete them.

Either use the Finder to calculate your folder sizes, or use DiskInventoryX as 6string suggested.
