This problem occurs when i update the system or install an app that requires a reboot. usually i can bypass it by holding option key on restart and select the mac hd. now that trick is no longer working. When i boot up holding command + s it says it fails to load extension driver com.apple.driver.appleACPIPlatform. hopes this help u help me.

ok.... first, unplug anything connected to your mac, then, hold down the power button for a few seconds, wait until it's completely shut down, and restart as normal.

There are many reasons for this to have occurred.... but I am guessing that you've installed something that you shouldn't have just before this started happening.

After restart i would uninstall whatever you did before this started if that is the case.
I would then run repair disk permissions.
Then restore your system from the latest working backup that you have (I assume you have a current working backup).
I would then go to about this mac, and if it is 10.5.7 or 10.5.8, I would download the 10.5.8 combo.
This could save having to go through all the possible reasons for this driver issue.

well i think im stuck or forced to reload mac os x because as i stated i am not able to load the os it just goes to panic when i turn on mac. when this occured before i would use what i stated before but now booting up normal and using the other option fail. so i think im am left with reloading os.

Before assuming it to be a Hardware issue.... I do suspect that it is due to incompatible software with incompatible drivers.
I would do a clean install, but before you do, do you have a working backup from before this problem arose?
If you do, before restoring from the backup, I would run through the Mac after a clean install and make sure that everything is working fine, to eliminate hardware issues.
