first time buying mac and have no knowledge of apple stores. do they ever run sales on their macs specifically laptops or are the prices pretty steadfast throughout the year. i noticed that prices are pretty much the same whether you buy at apple or an electronics store.

Unless you're eligible for a student discount or buy a machine at a university bookstore, prices are fairly even across the buying spectrum. Some on line stores like "Mac Mall" will sell for the same price as Apple but offer a rebate on the final sale. For example: Mac Mall sells the 13" MBP (2.26 GHZ, 2 GB, 160 GB HDD) for $1194.00 with an $80 rebate. Final price after rebate = $1114.00.
