Resetting PRAM

What does resetting the PRAM do and what is the outcome of doing it? Also, when would you reset the PRAM? Can it cause problems after doing it?

PRAM is a tiny space in memory that is sustained by battery power. It stores a select few settings that can't be saved to disk (For specifics, see http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=86194)

Resetting PRAM is a troubleshooting technique. Frankly, it rarely works, because it's rare that PRAM is the source of the problem. It's sort of a "last resort" before you start doing invasive or time-consuming things.

Cool, thanks for the info.

I was wondering because I'm about to install the internal Bluetooth Module to my PwrMac G5. The few install articles I've read didn't say you had to reset the PRAM. Then I came across one article that says you may have to do this. I didn't know how or where it was either. So thanks for the links.
