Incomplete Time Capsule

I have a MacBok running Mac OS X (Leopard). When I run Time Machine I have the back-up disk attached and another remote hard drive. Time Machine backs-up the remote hard drive, but all folders and documents are not included in the back-up.

Why would Time Machine back-up some folders and documents on the remote drive, but not all?
