Im a total beginner at html, a youtube tutorial was showing the basic stuff to make a website using notepad, having a mac I used textedit and save it as an HTML. I opened it in safari, but instead of having clean script, got this:

<html>
<head>
<title>Upper Lever clothing</title>
</head>

<body>
The best store in the world
</body>

</html>

Am I doing something wrong? IS there a better program to learn HTML on?

In TextEdit, press Command+Shift+T, this should make the formatting bar go away. Save with the extension .html, and then it should work :)

It looks like you didn't save with an HTML (or HTM) extension. As Unibody said, save it with the right extension and you should be good to go.
