I need help. A friend wanted me to communicate via Yahoo Messenger, so I installed it. BIG MISTAKE. It took over my computer and I don't have time to mess around with it to get it to do what I want. Can anyone tell me how to uninstall the program. Moving it to trash from my download folder doesn't get rid of everything. Thanks.

Did you just get rid of the disk image from your download folder or did you actually trash the application? If you just got rid of the image, you didn't get rid of the application.

I'm not sure

What I trashed was the file named "yahoomessenger_3.0.0build192773.dmg". I have since moved it back to my downloads folder in case that was the wrong thing to do.

Deleting that is fine. That's just the image. You need to go into your Applications folder and find Yahoo messenger and drag that to the trash to uninstall it.

Just to expand on what has been said here and for your future reference, the dmg file is roughly (very roughly) analogous to an installer for Windows in that it simply provides you with the files/applications to install and is not the application itself.
