Word application

I can't get my word application to open anything. It used to work, but then I accidently moved it out of the toolbar, and onto my desktop. Whenever i try to open it, this message pops up:


Microsoft Word cannot load the Microsoft Office shared libraries.
The files may have been moved from their original locations.
Try the following:

:Move word back to the microsoft office folder (or the folder where it was originally installed)
:Reinstall Word to make sure that all files are installed correctly.





I have tried doing these things but they wont work. Can someone give me a step-by- step how to on this? Thank you in advance.

One of the important things to do in a situation like this, and to try and rectify the mistake, is to retrace your steps (so to speak). If by "toolbar" you mean the Dock, then replace the Word application icon from your desktop, if it's still where you put it, in the Dock.

Then repair permissions, preferably with an appropriate version of Onyx (free) Titanium Software.

that didnt really work... and i cant remember what i did last time. this happened once before with excel, and i can't remember how i fixed it... and yes, i do mean the dock

Okay, next step to try:
Open the Applications Folder wherein resides the original Word application. Drag the Word icon from Apps to the Dock (this creates what used to be called, under pre-OS X, an alias).

What puzzles me, and the reason I said 'repair permissions', is that under OS X (which version btw?), moving an icon from the Dock to the desktop simply makes the icon disappear - poof! Did that happen?

PS. A Mod is likely to move this thread to Software > Applications, so look there if you find it gone from Hardware > Desktop.

Reinstalling Word really should cure just about anything that's wrong with it. You indicated that this didn't work. What happened (happens) when you tried (try) to reinstall it? What source are you reinstalling from?

Pop in your Office CD, and run the uninstaller program. Install a nice new version and use the same code from the CD case. Activate with Microsoft. Then update to the latest version. Office 2008 is currently version 12.2.3.

I accidently moved my word application icon out of the "Searching this Mac" menu when it came up. Since then whenever i have tried to open this word application, this message has popped up

Then it continues to give me a list of things to do, but I have tried those and i still cant get my word application to open.....Any ideas?

uh oh...i just put word in the trash and emptied the trash.... also i dont know how to install word.... i cant find the disk. and i think it came in a set

Putting it in the trash don't work and keep looking for the CD!

Maybe the industry should start putting a note on those CDs: Put this in a safe place. You may need it someday.
