Can't choose 1920x1080 resolution

Hi... I got my new monitor today.
It's native resolution seems to be 1920x1080, but there's no way that I can choose that resolution.

The best res. I can choose, so that it's full screen is 720p.
The display size is 22"

Does anybody know what I can do about this, I have tried switchres but I just don't know how to work it.

Could it be that I need to install drivers??

Are you absolutely sure that this monitor is capable of displaying 1920 x 1080?

Most 22" monitors usually have a native resolution of 1680 x 1050.

Is that Macbook mirroring from its own screen or are you using extended desktop?

Turning mirroring off may help

Great question "louishen"! We should know what computer the monitor is connected to (laptop or desktop) in case that may help.

This is as close as I can get to what your saying....
And you may well be right, when I look at the results of 1600x900, cause it's got these black bars on the sides.

I don't have a desktop, it's a MBP

Okay, this is better, you were right Louishen... but I'm missin my dock now and the top bar.

To put your Dock and Menu bar on the 22 inch monitor, you'll have to go under the screen arrangement tab. I would show you but I'm on my work computer so I'll try to explain it the best I can. Then you'll noticed it says to drag the Menu bar to the appropriate screen you want it on. So, just drag that tiny menu bar on the smaller monitor over to the big one in the picture and it should switch.

I wanted to add as well...with that 22" external monitor connected to your MBP...if you have your Display preferences set to extended desktop (not mirroring)...you should have one of those display resolution windows on each monitor (the MBP & the 22" monitor)...so you can choose a separate resolution for each display.

I just never had a big ext. screen on my MBP, so I just didn't know.

This is what I'm working with now, it's great, and it really resembles an Apple display a bit, check out the stand, the same principle.
I's also LED backlit, and has the glass glossy screen which I really like...

I have a Mac book pro laptop...I think about 15-16 ".
I have a Vizio Hd screen. Before leaving for a four month trip I was able to get a nice screen of 1920X 1080..I went to preferences and display. Even though the resolutions did not go that high ...someway it kicked to the hire res..
What is the key to getting back to this preferred res??
