Help!! My iPod is ejecting itself randomly

It happens every time i hook my ipod to my ibook. It finishes updating and then ejects. This is especially annoying when i have to transfer files to my ipod. I have a first generation iPod. Please and ideas would help........

in intunes, under ipod preferences, make sure you have it on manage yourself and not auto sync, 'cause that may fix it.
