I have just purchased abrand new macbook pro 13" (not sure if these are refered to as late 2009??)

Anyway i am upgrading the hard drive to a 500gb (preferably a 7200rpm drive) and was wondering if anybody has had any experience with any of them.

-Seagate Momentus 500GB 7200 RPM (i understand not to go for the 'G' one??)
-Hitachi Travel star 500gb 7200rpm (i understand this is what apple use?)
-Western Digital Scorpio Blue 500GB 5400 RPM

Right now I am leaning towards the Seagate. I have read many reviews about a beeping and pausing issue - is this till present?

I have the Western Digital 250gb drive in my old powerbook and it's fairly noisy

Any advise would be great:D

Thanks

I have that exact Seagate version in my MBP 15" and it works fine. Don't get the 'G' version.

I bought the Seagate as well. I haven't had any complaints at all. No extra heat, no noise, no platter chatter (lol), and most of all it was a great choice as an upgrade. I am glad I did it.

I just ordered my macbook pro and want to change my hard drive when it arrives as I hear it's much cheaper to do it that way. Is it hard to change? Will I screw it up? Do I need any special tools? I have never changed a hard drive before.
I also wanted to add more memory - is 8 GB overkill?

I've got a Western Digital "Scorpio Blue" 500 GB 5400RPM HD in mine and it's quiet as a mouse. There is no vibration at all and it boots up pretty quickly.

i did the same upgrade several days after buying my new mbp. it is very simple, just lots of little screws. one thing that the user guide doesn't mention is that you need a Torx T6 screwdriver to remove the hardware from the original drive. I had to run to ACE hardware halfway through the upgrade to grab one, but it was easy once I had it in hand.
