Macbook Pro A1226

I've had the computer for a year and a half. 5-6 months ago when I'd open and close the screen, horizontal lines would appear on the display. Slowly, the lines progressed into blacking out. The screen would just black out at particular angles. Then, the screen just blacked out. Have been using an external and finally have the money to make repairs.

I reckon that I dont need a new LCD but just a new LCD cable. Have never worked on a mac before (done extensive repairs on windows PCs). Any ideas and opinions greatly appreciated.
