• The Mac-Forums Community Guidelines (linked at the top of every forum) are very clear, we respect US law and court precedence when it comes to legality of activity.

    Therefore to clarify:
    • You may not discuss breaking DVD or BluRay encryption, copying, or "ripping" commercial, copy-protected DVDs.
    • This includes DVDs or BluRays you own. Even if you own the DVD or BluRay, it is still technically illegal under the DMCA to break the encryption. While some may argue otherwise, until the law is rewritten or the US Supreme Court strikes it down, we will adhere to the current intent of the law.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying unprotected movies or homemade DVDs.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying tools in the context that they are used for legal purposes as outlined in this post.

I'm not sure this is the best forum for me but here goes.

I'm toying with the idea of setting up a computing cluster of mac minis.

Ideally something which lets me expand easily just by plugging in new mac minis every month or so.

I plan on running it as a service to the community of videographers and 3d artists.

I know final cut supports cluster computing and I have the following questions.

1. Does anyone have a complete listing software and programs which would benefit from cluster computing?

2. Would I need individual licenses for each of my machines? Or is there a "renderer only" version which I can simply install?

Your Mac's Specs
Late 2013 rMBP, i7, 750m gpu, OSX versions 10.9.3, 10.10
I can't answer #1, because honestly, I have no clue.

#2 is no, as long as you're just using them for transcoding, which is taken care of through QMaster. Take a look at this thread at Apple: Apple - Support - Discussions - Qmaster ... - there are instructions on how to setup slave rendering stations. If you plan to install other apps of FCS, then you will need additional licenses.
