Hi all!

Yes...yet another mac newbie question! :)

I am in MUCH need of a screen capture software where I can take pictures of what ever parts of the screen that I want, save it as a jpeg, gif and so on and if possible that is free. I know they're must be plenty of free ones around and had a bunch of them for my pc.

Does anyone have any recommendations for a screen capture software for a Mac? :)

Thanks to all in advance!

Takes still images of full screen or window... also command+shift+3 will do full screen as well

Command + shift + 4 will give you cross hairs to selectively pick an area.

To build on CR's advice, you can push Command+Shift+4 and then push spacebar, which will turn you cursor into a camera. Now, any window you click on will be saved as a picture to your desktop.

I'd recommend Jing. You can take specific parts of the screen, whole windows, the who screen, video captures (i.e. so you can show someone a process), annotate them with highlights, arrows, text, etc. and even upload them to an FTP site very easily.

...and it's free... ;)

Yeah, I liked Skitch when it first came out, but the UI is not great IMO. As of last glace, it couldn't just FTP to anywhere and automatically copy a link to the clipboard for pasting on forums. If you set it up right, Jing will just sit in your menu bar. You click 'Capture', select your area to capture and then choose whether you want a still or video (with narration, even!). When you're done, you can save it, or send it elsewhere with just a click. It's about the best capture app I've ever used.
