Hey guys,

If someone can give me a free solution to my problem...you'll be my hero!

I had all my photos organized in iPhoto, which was synced to my iPhone. A week ago the hard drive on my fairly new (1.5YO) iMac decided to give me the flashing '?' folder of death. I found out the hard drive was shot and needed to be replaced (idiot for not using time machine..) anyway, I've managed to find a way to get all my music off my iPhone and back into iTunes. But I have a ton of pictures organized in albums on my iPhone and am struggling to find a way to get them back on my mac and into iPhoto.

Image Capture only seems to recognize the photos that in my 'Camera Roll' but none of the others.

Any suggestions??

Thanks,

Yeah, iPhoto only shows the photos that are on the camera roll. But it doesn't see all the others that I've put in albums.

Try using Image Capture in the Applications folder of your Mac.

thanks, I'll give it a shot.
I only need to extract them once then I can go back to syncing with iPhoto...so hopefully i can do it during the trial.

May not be a trial but a crippled demo, just to show you it works - good luck.

The demo let me access the first 20 photo's...then I have to purchase the full version for $20. I really would like to have these photo's, but I don't feel like spending $20 on a program I'm only going to use once...especially since all I'm doing is transferring MY own photos from MY iphone to MY computer....ridiculous.

Depends on whether those photos are worth $20 or not.

I'm not aware of another way to get them.

I do hope you've invested in an external drive this time around to keep everything backed up.

You could always email them from your phone to yourself.. When you're browsing the photos, just tap and hold down on the pic (you don't have to go into the pic, jsut when you're in the grid view) till the copy menu pops up, copy, paste in a new email (don't send it yet), go back into your photos, copy/paste into same email, repeat.

Just check your email on your computer and save them from there. Time consuming, I know, but it works.

No problem! :)

It just occurred to me, because I was thinking about other possible ways, and then I remembered how I had to do that when I had no PC/Mac to sync my phone with. So i did that and downloaded them from my email on my room mate's PC.

I never think of that because I don't use email on my phone.

Heh, I use email religiously on my phone. Honestly, as much as I can't stand my iPhone anymore, I still use it for daily tasks more than a computer (email, IM, facebook, light browsing, and maps; even though the GPS is acting funky).

Nonetheless, I'm glad I could help! All I ask, is pay it forward! :D haha!

1. Jailbreak the phone using Blackra!n. (takes 30 seconds)
2. Use Blackra!n app to install Cydia. (takes 30 seconds)
3. Use Cydia to install OpenSSH (takes 30 seconds.)
4. Download & install Cyberduck on your Mac.

Probably sounds a little overwhelming if you've never jailbroke an iPhone before but all of the above is safe and easy.

OpenSSH allows Cyberduck to access the files stored on your iphone via WiFi. They appear in a window similar to Finder. I don't see why you couldn't locate the photos and then copy and paste them back onto your Mac.

Before I get into details, maybe someone else could chime in if there is a reason why this would not work.

TeamRoot iPhone FAQ - Where are my photos stored ?

Cyberduck could easily get you to this folder on your iphone...
