Hi. I have a Dual 1.8 GHz PowerPC G5 with a GeForce FX 5200 graphics chip. The machine also has slots for PCI-X cards.

The graphics are a bit slow for online games, and I was wondering if anyone could recommend how to upgrade. Change the AGP card or add a PCI-X?

Does anybody know which cards would be compatible, and where to get them?

Thanks for your help.

I know that a Radeon 9650 with 256meg of video memory will work. A Radeon 9600 may work as well.

I just so happen to have a 9650 that I may be selling soon.

Also comparable to the X800 XT is the nVidia GeForce 6800 Ultra DDL or the 6800 GT. Both versions were available as genuine made to order products, and can be found online and on eBay (caveat emptor). If you do some research on the two cards, you'll find that they both have their strengths and weaknesses. This comparison is about the most thorough.

I currently run a 6800 Ultra DDL with two 20" Cinemas. I've previously owned a 9800 and an x800 xt. Honestly, in real world use, I can't tell a difference between the x800 xt and the 6800 Ultra DDL.
