I have a 15 inch macBook pro nov 2008. When inserting a disk 90% of the time the computer spits it right back out. All the disks are clean and even brand new out of the package disks get spit back out. Also the disks usually end up scratched. I assume that the drive is messed up and that i need to take it to apple, however i am in iraq and i need a quick fix if anyone knows any. Thanks

Not to sound offensive, but are you sure there's not a disk in it already when inserting one? The fact that they come out scratched most times indicates an issue inside the drive and indicates something you can't really quick fix. Like you said, it should be replaced or taken to Apple. Good luck.

No its empty. It takes the disk all the way in and then spits it right back out.

ImageX is right, scratches on a disc almost always indicates a faulty drive.
They are circular scratches or straight? (not that it matters, I just like to know);D

Scratches being straight indicates that the CD is being scratched on the way in or out of the drive (or both). If the internals of the drive were scratching it when it tries to spin, the scratches would be circular. I would say to see if there is anything jammed in your drive, but since you said it accepts the CDs sometimes, I'm still rooting for the problem being your drive and should be taken to Apple for replacement. Good luck.

I have had a similar problem.
The cd/dvd would eject back out pretty much straight away.
No scratching though. Anyway I took it to apple, they are replacing the drive this friday.
